Costa Rica – Walking from the Pacific to the Caribbean

The Challenge

This trek takes us across country, some jungle. Small villages tracks, rivers and fabulous scenery. On route, we may see monkeys, sloth, toucans, ants, snakes, frogs and firefly along with other exotic birds and animals.

On route we will ascend the Irazu volcano at 3432 metres and can experience white water rafting (optional extra) as we cross the country from the Pacific to the Caribbean. There are lots of descents and ascents but the experience is terrific. Be prepared to camp and hostel on route as we walk and cross the country from Quepos on the west side to Limon on the east side.

We will walk through jungle, coffee and banana plantations and remote areas but stunning views at every turn. There are rivers to cross, villages to walk through and very friendly local people to meet.

Costa Rica is a paradise of stunning scenery, rivers and mountains. We walk, we bus where necessary and we trek mostly to reach the Caribbean Sea where we have a well earned rest.

On the journey, the minibus will accompany us or meet up regularly enabling you to walk ‘light’ through the hot jungle and leave your heavy bag in the vehicle. There will be frequent stops for drinks and there are regular cafes on route for refreshment too.

We fly to San Jose airport in Costa Rica where we are taken in a minibus to Quepos. Here we spend the night before starting our trek.

Next day we start our trek from Quepos and proceed into jungle on stony tracks. We ascend several mountains on this very undulating trek, but frequent stops for food and drinks to cool off in the heat, will refresh us.

We pass through the towns of San Lorenzo, Cartago, Turrialba and Siquirres before reaching Limon and the end of the trek. We stay for the night before transferring back to San Hose to prepare for our flight home.
