This trek, around the mountains, volcanos and valleys in Iceland is exceptional in that it takes you through some of the best rated walking areas and trails in the world, over mountains and around the rim of volcano’s, with commanding views over a large area. This is a 5 day trip, and on it you will see many waterfalls, lakes and volcano’s and feel the warm ground under your feet of the volcanic activity. We walk on Eyjafjallajökull volcano, famous for the 2010 ash cloud and on the Laugavegur trail, voted one of the 20 best walks in the world.
On day one we meet at the airport where we fly to Reykjavik and are collected and taken straight to our start and hotel. Next day we start the walk passing many volcanos and mountains on the way. The trip is vehicle assisted in some parts where necessary to enable us to walk and see as much of the area as possible. Numerous rivers, canyons, glaciers, and hot springs, are all set amidst the magnificent Icelandic hills and mountains.
We stay in a hotel at the end of the trek and mountain huts/refuges in between while walking. On the trek we take you on an exploration through the Þórsmörk valley including the foothills of Eyjafjallajökull, and a hike up Fimmvörðuháls volcano.
Our actual walking lasts 3 days and we have a short time to relax at the beginning and end of the trek. We stay in a hotel in Reykjavik for the final night where we have some free time before we leave for home next morning.
NOTE : We reserve the right to change the itinerary slightly depending on flight times, weather, volcanic activity and timings for each day but will endeavour to keep to the plan outlined here.
