Ireland’s Top Two Peaks

The Challenge

If you have walked the National 3 Peaks then how about the Irish two. Slieve Donard in Northern Ireland and Carrauntoohil in Southern Ireland.

On this trip we meet in Wales and cross on the ferry to Dublin where we head straight down to Killarney and ascend Carrauntoohil (1038 m). Leaving here we head straight up to Northern Ireland to ascend Slieve Donard (850 m). Both these peaks are the final link to complete the 5 highest peaks of the respective countries if you have already completed the National 3 Peaks.

Terrain

Mountainous as you would expect. Can be extremely wet, boggy, rocky with some scrambling. Either or both mountains can be covered in low cloud with torrential rain at any time.
